Kristin Okerlund, piano

Kristin Okerlund has been on the musical staff of the Vienna Staatsoper as solo coach and accompanist since 1993, and has held a teaching position at the Vienna Conservatory of Music since 1992. She studied at the St. Louis Conservatory of Music, the University of Illinois, and at the Vienna Conservatory of Music.

Her teachers include John Wustman, Ian Hobson, Jane Allen and Leonid Brumberg. A winner of numerous competitions, Ms. Okerlund has been heard in the USA, USSR, China, Japan, Nigeria, Lybia, France, Spain, Germany, and Austria as soloist, chamber musician and accompanist. Ms. Okerlund has performed concerts with Bernd Weikl, Walter Berry, William Warfield, Samuel Ramey, Nancy Gustafson, Johan Botha, Andrea Rost, Angelika Kirchschlager, Neil Shicoff, Giuseppe Sabbatini, Bo Skovhus, and Edita Gruberova, among many others.

Conductors with whom she has worked include Sir Georg Solti, Zubin Mehta, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Christoph von Dohnany, Seiji Ozawa, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Bertrand de Billy.

In the summer of 2009, Ms. Okerlund was personally invited by Maestro Lorin Maazel to join the music staff at the Chateauville Foundation Festival in Castleton Virginia.

In December 2011, she will perform concerts in Chicago with Samuel Ramey, Sylvia McNair and Nancy Gustafson and also perform with Jonathan Beyer for Lorin Maazel’s Chamber Music Series outside of Washington DC. In February 2012 she will accompany baritone Jonathan Beyer in recital at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
