Joan Harkenrider Floriano, a frequent performer on the musical stage, most recently sang the roles of Mother Hawkins in the premiere of Treasure Island - The Musical (directed by Brett Smock) and Madame de la Grande Bouche in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, both with Rochester Children's Theatre. Favorite roles include Lucy in Rochester Opera Factory's production of Menotti's The Telephone, Sister Mary Amnesia in Nunsense, Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Silberklang in Mozart's Impresario, and Laura in the Hudson-Kaplan musical, Main-Travelled Roads (premiered while a fellowship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival.)
She performed the role of Galatea in Handel's Acis and Galatea, Julie Jordan in Carousel, and leading roles in revue productions of Perfectly Frank and Cole ("... touchingly effective...") wrote critic Edward Charbonneau about the latter. Touring shows include Jeannie in The Stephen Foster Story tour of Japan, Mert in Peppermint Bear with Little People Productions of New York.
Ms. Harkenrider Floriano has recently collaborated with husband and conductor Gerard Floriano in presenting educational orchestral concerts for young audiences with original scripts performing the role of Millie Poof in "Music from Around the World and Hogwars" and "Music and Magic in Space" - both premiered at the Brevard Music Festival. Oratorio credits include soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah, Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Magnificat, and Cantatas, Faure's Requiem, and Schubert's Mass in G (recorded under MARK Label,) among others. Ms. Harkenrider Floriano received her Master's degree in Voice from the Eastman School of Music, where she earned the prestigious Performer's Certificate in Voice and Opera. She has taught voice at Hochstein Music School, given numerous master classes at area high schools and frequently serves as adjudicator for young artist competitions. She currently teaches voice and Foreign Language Diction at Nazareth College.
She resides in Rochester with her husband and their three children.
